Switch on to… Thomas Tissandier's bright loft

The M collection of light switches found its place in Thomas Tissandier's world when he renovated the flat he owns with interior designer Caroline Pusset in the heart of Paris. Step into the world of this photographer and artistic director and discover the inspirations that shaped his bright loft, highlighting the raw beauty of the materials.

How would you describe your world as a photographer?

I seek to create suspended images. I like simple scenes, details and weathered materials. My work lies somewhere between documentary and staging — I try to capture reality, while injecting a form of poetry into it. I like it when an image gives the impression that something has just happened or is about to happen. And there's something about Edward Hopper that often accompanies me: I like the light at the end of the day and melancholic solitude.

How does your flat reflect your personality? Your photographer's eye?

It's quite raw, with visible materials and beautiful lines — two things that I find very satisfying in general. The space remains minimalist and rather zen, which allows each object and each colour to really exist. And despite this simplicity, it remains warm. At certain times of the day, the light is incredible, and the layout of the space invites you to slow down, sit down for a coffee and enjoy the moment. This is something I really enjoy doing in life and which reflects my vision of photography.

Why did you choose MODELEC for your interior? And how do the products fit into your interior?

For me, light switches are far from a minor detail — especially in a raw, minimalist interior like mine, where every element is highlighted. My MODELEC switches play a key role in the character of the space. In fact, they were one of my very first aesthetic choices, well before anything else. And they're one of the elements I continue to appreciate the most today.

Were you inspired by any particular places?

I remember being struck by a hotel in Portugal, in the Upper Douro, which was almost like a contemporary museum and where I felt very comfortable. It's a feeling I get a little bit in my own home. It's reminiscent of both a gallery and a photo studio, while echoing its past as a former painter's studio.
